Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) – Tuomo Ruutu, Adam Henrique and Andy Greene
each scored in the first period as the New Jersey Devils beat the Carolina
Hurricanes 3-1 on Saturday at Prudential Center.
Keith Kinkaid stopped all 17 Carolina shots he faced before leaving with an
injury at 13:59 of the second period. He got hurt when he did a split while
attempting to stop a rebound.
Cory Schneider made 14 saves in relief for New Jersey, which has won the first
three on its current six-game homestand.
Jeff Skinner scored the Hurricanes’ lone goal with 6:04 remaining in the third
period.
Carolina pulled goaltender Anton Khudobin with over four minutes to play, but
couldn’t score despite spending plenty of time in the New Jersey zone.
Khudobin finished with 16 saves as the Hurricanes lost for the fourth time in
six games.
The Devils took a 1-0 lead 10:32 into the game when Ruutu tipped Adam
Larsson’s one-timer past Khudobin. Henrique had a breakaway and went five-hole
on Khudobin less than two minutes later.
New Jersey went up 3-0 before the first intermission. Jordin Tootoo carried
the puck behind the Carolina net and sent a pass into the slot for Greene, who
glided to his right before beating Khudobin on the glove side with 27.1
seconds left.

The Devils improved to 10-2-3 in their last 15 home games … Greene ended a
70-game goal drought … Carolina was 0-for-2 on the power play.
