Elliott, Blues stifle Flames

Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) – Alexander Steen scored twice and Brian
Elliott made 25 saves for his fifth shutout of the season as the St. Louis
Blues topped the Calgary Flames 4-0 on Tuesday.

David Backes posted a goal and two assists, Jori Lehtera also scored and T.J.
Oshie supplied two assists for the Blues, who have won five of their last six
games.

Elliott turned aside six shots during the first period, 11 in the middle
stanza and eight more in the third for his 30th career whitewash.

Jonas Hiller allowed three goals on 25 shots in Calgary’s second straight
loss.

After a scoreless opening stanza, Steen put the Blues on the board with 8:28
left in the second. Steen skated up to the right circle and wristed a shot
over Hiller’s glove.

Lehtera increased St. Louis’ lead to 2-0 just 1:18 into third. Vladimir
Tarasenko stripped a defender of the puck and slipped a pass back to Jaden
Schwartz, who had his cross-ice feed one-timed into the net by Lehtera.

Steen netted his second of the night on a slap shot prior to the midway point
of the final stanza.

The Flames pulled Hiller with over eight minutes to play. After briefly
returning to the net, the Calgary netminder was pulled once again and Backes
sealed the outcome by scoring on the vacated cage.

Game Notes

Elliott recorded his 21st shutout as a member of the Blues and passed Jaroslav
Halak to become the new franchise leader … St. Louis forward Barret Jackman,
who appeared in all of St. Louis’ prior 69 games this season, was a healthy
scratch … Blues forward Paul Stastny played in his 600th NHL game, while
Flames defenseman Kris Russell appeared in his 500th … The Blues improved
to 5-0-1 in their last six games against the Flames … The two teams will
conclude the season series in St. Louis on April 2.
