Howard, Red Wings blank Jackets

Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) – Jimmy Howard made 28 saves for his first
shutout of the season and the Detroit Red Wings grabbed a 5-0 win over the
Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.

Tomas Tatar and Tomas Jurco each posted a goal and an assist while Gustav
Nyquist, Riley Sheahan and Darren Helm all scored for the Red Wings, who have
won three of their last five.

Sergei Bobrovsky was victimized for all five goals on 40 shots for the Blue
Jackets, who had a two-game winning streak snapped.

The Red Wings got on the board halfway through the first period as Jonathan
Ericsson threw a shot on net from the right point and Tatar was there to throw
in the rebound from in front.

Columbus appeared to tie the game with 1:42 to play in the first as Boone
Jenner appeared to get the puck into the net from in front, but replay showed
that he kicked it in and the goal was disallowed.

Just 1:44 into the second while on the power play, the Red Wings made it a 2-0
game as Johan Franzen wristed a shot on net from the slot that saw Nyquist
snap home the rebound from the right side for his ninth of the season.

The Red Wings made it a 3-0 game 4:49 into the third with another power-play
goal as Jurco beat Bobrovsky to the short side with a wrister from the left
circle for his first of the season.

A nice tic-tac-toe play was finished off by Sheahan in front of the net just
over a minute later for a 4-0 lead.

Helm scored on a quick shot from the right circle with 1:01 to play to account
for the final score.
