Hurricanes claim Nestrasil from Detroit

Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) – The Carolina Hurricanes have claimed forward
Andrej Nestrasil off waivers from the Detroit Red Wings.

Nestrasil had two assists in 13 games for the Wings this season, his first in
the NHL. He spent the 2013-14 season with Detroit’s American Hockey League
affiliate in Grand Rapids.

“Andrej is a young player with good size who we feel can contribute to our
group of forwards,” said Hurricanes general manager Ron Francis. “He has
improved in each of his pro seasons and took a big step last year with Grand
Rapids.”

The 23-year-old Czech native posted 16 goals and 20 assists for 36 points in
70 games for Grand Rapids last season. He was selected by the Red Wings in the
third round of the 2009 NHL Draft.
