Oilers’ Ference suspended three games

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – Edmonton Oilers defenseman Andrew Ference
was suspended three games by the NHL on Monday for an illegal check.

Ference delivered a check to the head of Vancouver forward Zack Kassian in the
second period of Saturday’s game with the Canucks. He was assessed a minor
penalty on the play.

The supplemental discipline was issued by the NHL Department of Player Safety
because Ference is considered a repeat offender. He will forfeit $118,902 of
his salary, which will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Ference will miss road games this week against Philadelphia, Boston and
Buffalo. He will be eligible to return on Sunday against the New York Rangers
at Madison Square Garden.
