Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) – Nikita Nikitin scored the go-ahead goal in
the second period and the Edmonton Oilers hung on for a 3-2 win over the
Washington Capitals on Wednesday night.
Nikitin tallied on the power play off a high point one-timed slap shot at the
16:08 mark of the frame and Ben Scrivens made 13 of his 32 saves in the third
period to preserve the victory.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Justin Schultz also lit the lamp, while Teddy Purcell
dished out two assists for Edmonton, which has won two straight following an
0-5 start.
Mike Green and John Carlson netted goals for the Capitals, who were the last
team in the NHL to suffer a regulation loss. Braden Holtby stopped 17 shots in
defeat.
