Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) – Marko Dano recorded two of six unanswered
Columbus goals that lifted the Blue Jackets to a 6-2 decision over the
Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena.
All of the Blue Jackets’ scoring came over the final two periods, with Dano
finishing with three points and Alexander Wennberg adding a goal and an
assist. Rene Bourque, Cam Atkinson and Scott Hartnell also lit the lamp in
Columbus’ fifth win in its last six games.
Sergei Bobrovsky did his part as well for the Blue Jackets, coming up with a
38-save effort.
Eddie Lack stopped 25-of-30 shots before being removed in favor of Jacob
Markstrom midway through the third period.
Daniel Sedin and Bo Horvat accounted for the Canucks’ two goals.
The Blue Jackets scored twice within a span of under three minutes to tie the
game at 2-2 midway through the second period, then struck on a power play late
in the stanza to pull in front.
Mark Letestu sent the puck towards the Vancouver net from the right point on
the 5-on-4, with Atkinson successfully redirecting the shot past Lack 1:42
prior to the second intermission.
Columbus continued its offensive barrage during the final period, with Dano
getting his second of the night by knocking in a loose puck while charging the
net 5:41 into the frame. The rookie later set up Hartnell’s 22nd goal of the
season on a 2-on-1 that made it 5-2 with 11:28 to play.
Canucks head coach Willie Desjardins pulled Markstrom with around five minutes
left, with the decision leading to Wennberg’s empty-netter with 4:22 still to
go.
Bobrovsky was superb during a scoreless opening period in which he was
peppered with 20 shots, but was beaten twice 40 seconds apart early in the
second.
Horvat got it started by firing in a loose puck caused by a Columbus turnover
in the defensive zone with three minutes elapsed in the session, and Sedin
quickly made it 2-0 by knocking in the rebound after having his initial
attempt blocked by Bobrovsky.
The Blue Jackets answered when Bourque beat Lack to the glove side during a
transition rush at the 7:04 mark. Less than three minutes afterward, Dano
converted a well-placed behind-the-net give from Artem Ansimov to pull
Columbus even.
