Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Brent Burns scored two of San Jose’s four
third-period goals as the Sharks rallied past the Dallas Stars, 5-3.
Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton also lit the lamp in the third stanza for the
Sharks, who started a seven-game road trip on Saturday. James Sheppard added
one goal and an assist.
Alex Stalock made 37 saves for San Jose.
Tyler Seguin recorded a hat trick for the Stars, who have lost seven in a row
(0-5-2). Anders Lindback stopped 24-of-28 shots.
Marleau’s power-play goal at 3:51 of the third cut San Jose’s deficit to 3-2.
Joe Pavelski’s shot from the slot was stopped by Lindback, but Marleau put
home the rebound.
Burns tied it at 6:38 when he beat Lindback with a one-timer from the left
circle.
Burns’ second goal gave the Sharks the lead for good, when he put home a
rebound from the right circle at 10:23 to make it 4-3.
Thornton’s empty-netter with 41.5 seconds remaining wrapped up the victory for
San Jose.
Seguin opened the scoring 8:03 into the first period when Sergei Gonchar’s
blast from the right point deflected off his shoulder and went past Stalock.
He scored from the right circle at 10:26, but Sheppard cut the gap to 2-1 at
17:14.
Seguin completed his hat trick at 15:28 of the second when he jammed in the
rebound of Jason Spezza’s shot from the left circle for a power-play goal.
Game Notes
Spezza’s assist on Seguin’s third goal was his 700th career point in his 700th
game … Dallas forwards Valeri Nichushkin (hip/groin) and Cody Eakin
(hip/groin) missed the game … The Stars recalled forward Curtis McKenzie
from Texas (AHL) prior to Saturday’s game.
