Frisco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – The Dallas Stars signed center Jason Spezza
to a four-year contract extension on Friday.
Financial terms were not released by the team, but TSN.ca reported the
contract has an average annual value of $7.5 million.
Spezza was acquired from the Ottawa Senators in a trade on July 1 and has
posted four goals and 14 assists in 20 games this season. He could have become
an unrestricted free agent next summer.
“Jason is a world-class player and his commitment to the organization is a
reflection of what we are building in Dallas,” Stars general manager Jim Nill
said. “The professionalism and production he brings to our group is key for
our success moving forward and we value the leadership he brings to our team.”
Selected second overall by Ottawa in the 2001 draft, Spezza has compiled 255
goals and 450 assists for 705 points in 706 career games.
